April is National Stress Month. Stress is a natural response to challenges we face in everyday life. Common stressors include relationships, finances, major life events, work-related issues and more. Everyone experiences stress in different ways and for different reasons; it can also be a positive force that motivates behavior change. Long-term or chronic stress, however, can lead to worsening health problems. Although stress can feel like a never-ending cycle, there are healthy ways to manage it.
Taking small steps to manage your stress can have a large impact on your health and wellbeing. One way that you can cope with stress is by practicing self-care. Self-care is any activity that is done deliberately to take care of one’s mental, emotional, or physical health. Self-care looks different for everyone. A good place to start could be setting aside time daily for activities you enjoy, establishing professional and personal boundaries, practicing gratitude, and connecting with others.
