Reimbursement For Travel And Lodging Expenses – New Coverage For 2023*

As a result of the recent decision by the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) has issued optional reimbursement travel and lodging coverage that may be applied to Small and Large Group products.

The reimbursement coverage allows a member to be reimbursed for travel and lodging costs to travel to another state to obtain covered services not available to the member in the state where they live.

To ensure our members have access to this coverage Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will include coverage for our Commercial Group segments upon group renewal beginning January 1, 2023, and after. This applies to Fully Insured Large Groups and Small Groups without a religious exemption. Self-Insured groups (including Article 47 and minimum premium) will have the option to elect this benefit.

Please contact your Account Service Manager for additional details.
