Accurate Effective Dates Help Ensure Employees Are Covered

Any employers who use the online Enroll & Update tool on the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield website to enroll a new employee in medical or dental plans must select the correct effective date in the online tool a date that is in alignment with the new employee’s waiting period for coverage. If the wrong effective date is selected by the employer in the online Enroll & Update tool, the new employee may have a delay in coverage!

For example, sometimes employers use the date they submit the request in the online Enroll & Update tool as the effective coverage date for coverage for their new employee when new employees are eligible for medical following 45 days of employment and eligible for dental following 90 days of employment. If you come across scenarios where the effective date and how it was applied in the online Enroll & Update tool are in question, please reach out to your account manager and do not enroll the individual with an inaccurate effective date.

It’s the responsibility of the employer to enroll their employees correctly, but we want to do all we can to make the enrollment process as simple and straightforward as possible. Please share this effective date reminder with your groups and let them know they can contact Customer Care if they need help submitting forms via the web.
