Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Waives COVID-19 Cost Sharing

Excellus BCBS will waive out of pocket costs for COVID-19 medical testing, diagnosis and treatment for its fully insured employer groups, individual market qualified health plans and Medicare Advantage members for the next 60 days. 

This waives the member’s copayment or cost share for testing, diagnosis and treatment, even if that treatment is delivered in the hospital. 


High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) 
Members with HDHPs will be covered in full even if the deductible has not been met. HDHP members will not be disqualified from being an eligible individual under section 223(c)(1) who may make tax-favored contributions to a health savings account (HSA). 

Self-Funded Groups 
Self-funded groups are required to waive member cost shares for COVID-19 testing; however, they are not mandated to waive member cost shares for COVID-19 treatment. They may choose to opt in, so their members’ needs are met during this time. Our account representatives will be contacting brokers and groups by email with the specific details of this option.
