Safety Net Recertifications Update

During the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), most Safety Net members have not been required by NY State to renew their Medicaid Managed Care, Essential Plan or Child Health Plus eligibility. For most members, coverage has renewed automatically during the PHE.

However, the recent passage of the Omnibus Appropriations Bill has uncoupled the restart of Safety Net recertifications from the final PHE efforts.

Under the bill, Safety Net recertifications will begin again, regardless of the PHE status, starting with members whose eligibility ends in June of 2023.

How to Recertify
Going forward, all members will need to renew their eligibility once a year through NY State of Health. Medicaid members who enroll through their county’s Medicaid office will need to contact their local office to renew.

  • Members will receive a notice when it is time for them to renew their plan.
  • Members will need to update their account at NYStateOfHealth.ny.gov or by calling their county Medicaid office, with details like their address, email address and telephone number.

Our priority is that members do not lose coverage during this renewal process. Our Marketplace Facilitated Enrollers and Customer Care Advocates will be available to help them with any questions, and to schedule appointments for renewals.

In March, we will provide you with links to an overview of the renewal process, with FAQs and helpful how-to videos for members.
