Google Certification For Health Insurance Advertising

On April 20, Google announced they are instituting a certification process for health insurance advertising intended to protect consumers. Google has seen an influx in advertising for misleading products and services and wants to ensure that the only brands permitted to advertise health insurance are government exchanges, first-party providers, and licensed third-party brokers. They are now requiring brands looking to advertise to submit verification that they fall into these categories.

We are sharing the following information as a courtesy to our brokers. Note that Excellus BCBS cannot assist brokers or certify for brokers with Google on their behalf. For more information, visit the website in the link below.

Below are some important deadlines and considerations:

  • The certification process needs to be completed by June 2, 2021.
  • Certification takes place through Verisk Financial. You can learn more by visiting their website.
  • You will be asked to provide documentation around your state license to sell health insurance and if applicable, your registration information to sell insurance through the ACA.
  • A nominal fee is also charged.

If you are not able to become certified, you will not be able to advertise your business through Google (both search and display/video) and/or be very limited on what you will be able to promote.
